The great Holi Festival is believed to be derived from the prank played by lord Krishna on women’s of Mathura. Holi has started when Krishna was a young Boy. One day he asked his mother Yashoda why his colour was much darker than his dearest friend/companion Radha whose colour and complexion was much fairer than him.
At that time his mother Yashoda playfully suggested that he should smear color on Radha’s face and change her complexion with any color he wanted.
Upon hearing the same, the young naughty Krishna smeared blue & black color on the face of Radha. Upon witnessing the same all other gopis came for the defense of Radha. But their defense in this regard did not deter Krishna to keep continue the same and he simultaneously smeared colors on all Gopis too in a funny manner.
Even though, the entire Gopi’s were totally against Krishan’s action initially, but later they all joined with Krishna in playing those pranks among each other.
This lovable prank between Lord Krishna and Gopis created a joyous atmosphere in the Vrindavan and the people in the Vrindavan started following the same gradually. Later, this practice has grown in a phenomenal manner throughout India and the people started celebrating the same every year in a colorful manner to show their unity, love, affection, brotherhood towards other people.
