Military rule in Myanmar

Myanmar once again facing ruthless military rule

Ever since Myanmar’s military has overthrown Aung San Suu Kyi from the power on 1st February 2021 and seized their country’s power, Myanmar has been witnessing widespread agitation/violence against the Military regime.

Aung Saan Suu Kyi became the first elected State Counselor (equivalent to Prime Minister.) of Myanmar on 6th April 2016 and she has been at the helm of power till Myanmar military captured the power once again by a military coup on 01st February 2021.

Military regime has already detained Aung San Suu Kyi and her top lieutenants in the Jail after seizing the power of Myanmar.

Even though the Military regime has been trying their level best to crush the agitation again them, unrelenting agitations are still ongoing in a vigorous manner across the country. As the law and order situation in the country is getting worse day by day, the military regime is now asking their soldier to fire indiscriminately on the agitating people.

Recently Myanmar has witnessed worst ever Bloodiest Day and more than 423 innocent people have already been killed by the military firing. Considering the same, recently defense ministers of 12 countries including the United States, Britain, Japan and Australia vehemently condemned Myanmar military junta for using excessive military force against the agitating Myanmar people across the country.

While majorities of the countries in the world are busy in condemning Myanmar military junta for carrying out heinous crime towards their citizens, veto power countries like Russia and China are now busy in enhancing their diplomatic and military relationship with Myanmar Military Junta.

Instead of isolating the ruthless Myanmar military junta regime, Russian regime stated that the military coup in Myanmar was purely a “domestic affairs”. Whereas, Chinese regime stated that the military coup in Myanmar was a mere “Cabinet Reshuffle”.

Russia is now trying to expand their area of influence in Myanmar and they are now planning to sell more and more arms and ammunitions to Myanmar military government.

For the past several years Myanmar regime has been completely relying on Russian armaments. They have already purchased advanced Russian weapons such as 30 MiG-29 Jet fighters, 6 Su-30SME Jet fighters, 12 Yak-130 Jet trainers, 10 Mi-24 and Mi-35P Helicopters, 8 Pechora-2M anti-aircraft missile systems, unmanned Aerial vehicles as well as anti-tank and artillery systems, etc.

Myanmar military regime is now badly requires Russian government’s U.N. Veto Power to avert the possible U.N. economic and military sanctions against Myanmar.

On the other hand, China is also now looking for getting more and more business from Myanmar and they wanted to expand their Belt and Road Initiative in Myanmar with the support of Military Junta Government.

Myanmar(Old name was Burma) has been famous for decades long military rule. On 2nd March 1962, a Military General called Ne Win carried out a military coup in Burma with the support of prominent military personnel and established the Revolutionary Council of the Union of Burma.

Since then Ne Win literally ruled the country from 4 July 1962 – to 23 July 1988 (Total 26 years). He resigned from the power in July 1988 and was replaced by the military junta of the State Law and Order Restoration Council.

Military Junta in Myanmar has always been ruthless and they are ready to do anything for keeping their power intact in the country. As veto power countries such as Russia and China are giving solid support to the Myanmar Military regime, it will be highly difficult for the world community as well as United Nations to unseat the existing Myanmar’s ruthless military regime in the near future.
