Recently former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe strongly warned China that the Japan would not become a silent spectator if mainland China attacks Taiwan.
He further stated that any Chinese military adventure against Taiwan would be the path to economic suicide and the Japan-U.S. military alliance would make sure that they preserve Taiwan’s unity and integrity in future.
Shinzo Abe warned China at a time when Chinese fighter war planes have already been carried out hundreds of incursions into Taiwan’s air defense.
It seems that the Japan leaders are now very much worried about the ongoing Chinese military incursions into Taiwan’s air defense and their military aggression in South China Sea.
Shinzo Abe was the Prime Minister of Japan from 2006 to 2007 as well as from 2012 to 2020.
During his Prime Ministerial tenure, he was always been talking tough against Chinese military aggression and their expansionist attitude.
To counter China’s frequent military aggression, he has taken widespread diplomatic and military measures against China and the same was causing considerable problems for the Chinese regime.
He was the leader who advocated for a closer defense co-operation between Japan, Australia, India, and the United States to ensure peace, stability, maritime security and maritime trade in the Indo pacific Ocean region.
Japanese leaders are now literally feels that soon or later Chinese military will carry out a massive military assault on Taiwan and try their level best to merge Taiwan with mainland China.
If Chinese military succeed in annexing Taiwan with mainland China, then Japan may face following threat from China:-
- China has been claiming that the Japanese Senkaku Islands are belongs to them. As these Islands are situating only 354 kms away from Taiwan, then the China can pose major military threat on these Islands from annexed Taiwan.
- China may also pose major military threat on Japanese Westernmost Island which is located just 100 miles away from Taiwan’s east coast.
Once Chinese military capture Taiwan, then the Chinese military will be able to capture Senkaku Islands and Westernmost Island of Japan very easily.
Given below details of the the military actions Japan has been taking to counter the Chinese military aggression:-
- Japan is now improving its missile defence capabilities including the tracking and interception capabilities.
- Upgrading of surface to air missile launchers installed on islands at the edge of the East China Sea
- Installed Patriot PAC-3 missile batteries to destroy possible Chinese and North Korea’s incoming missiles.
- Japan is now on the process of purchasing 147 Nos. F-35 joint strike fighters (that includes F-35A conventional takeoff and landing aircraft and F-35 short takeoff and landing variants) from U.S. based Lockheed Martin.
- Japan is now playing a major military role with Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD) comprising of Australia, India, Japan, and the United States. This group was formed to maintain the liberal rules-based international order that China tries to undermine in South China Sea and Indo-Pacific regime. QUAD is basically meant for countering China’s growing assertiveness in the Indo- Pacific and South China Sea region.
- Japan is now on the process of purchasing anti- missile destroyers, submarines, amphibious vehicles, surveillance drones, Boeing Osprey aircrafts, etc from various domestic and international sources.
- Japan is now building a separate marine amphibious force unit that is capable of capable of retaking those Islands that are forcefully captured by others such as China.
By sending a clear cut warning to China. former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe once again proved that he is still a capable and tough leader of Japan who can create sleepless nights to Chinese President Xi Jinping.
