U.S. Navy should have intimate India prior to conduct Freedom of Navigation operation near Lakshadweep Islands
Ever since 7th Fleet of U.S. Navy has conducted Freedom of Navigation operation near Lakshadweep islands in the Indian Ocean without India’s consent, serious bilateral misunderstanding are now ongoing between India and U.S.A. India considers the conducted area of Freedom of Navigation is an exclusive economic zone of India (EEZ),
The Government of India has already sent a strong protest message to U.S. regime in this regard and asked them to follow the key clause in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in future.
India also told U.S. that they have to take adequate permission from India prior to conduct any further Freedom of Navigation operation with weapons and explosives within the perimeter of India’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in future.
American Navy carried out the Freedom of Navigation operation just after India, U.S., Australia and Japan has hold first-ever QUAD leaders’ summit with an aim to counter China’s growing influence in the Indo-Pacific region.
Leaders of the QUAD group carried out a virtual meeting that was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and his Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga.
During this meeting, they have discussed wide range issues such as production and supply Covid 19 vaccine supply, importance of formalizing good relationship with QUAD group countries and the ongoing Indo-Pacific security challenges from aggressive China.
Leaders of QUAD openly supported a “free and fair” Indo-Pacific which is a clear message to Beijing that it needs to curb its assertive behavior.
QUAD is basically a four-nation alliance consisting of India, Australia, US and Japan that was was established in 2007. Unfortunately this group has failed to take off initially due to hesitation among the four nations and the objections raised by China.
But due to Chinese aggressive activities in South China Sea and Indo Pacific region has forced U.S., Japan, Australia and India to revive their QUAD Alliance in an effective manner in 2017.
This group is often dubbed as an “Asian” or “mini” Nato, Quad is viewed as a counterbalance to Chinese military and their economic clout in the Indo-Pacific region. QUAD member countries are now planning to increasing their defense budgets to balance the military equation with China.
While QUAD group countries activities moving in a right direction, U.S. Navy’s latest Freedom of Navigation operation near Lakshadweep islands in the Indian Ocean without India’s consent, will be definitely weaken the QUAD group one again.
Hence, It is better the U.S. regime to refrain from carrying out such kind of unilateral Naval activities within the perimeter of India’s exclusive economic zone with it’s consent in future.
As China has been posing aggressive military threat throughout the world , cordial relationship between India and U.S. is highly required to contain China in an effective manner.
