Few months back Bipin Rawat vehemently advocated for forming “integrated theatre commands” for Indian military. To achieve his goal, he has already begun preliminary work regarding the same with the support of Indian government. But his sudden death has shattered his entire dream regarding the same.
‘Theatre command’ is basically a unified command under which all the resources of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force are pooled, depending on the threat perception.
Please find below his vision and plans about India’s “Integrated Theatre Commands”.
- “Western Theatre Command” that is responsible for the border against Pakistan
- “Northern Theatre Command” that is responsible for Indo China border.
- “Navy-heavy theatre command” is generally known as “Maritime Command” and this command is is fully responsible for the security of the Indian Ocean Region (IOR)
- Andaman & Nicobar Command (ANC) which has been known as “Island Command” that has already been operational to protect Andaman and Nicobar islands.
Seldom countries such as United States, France, Germany, Australia, Russia, China are having “Integrated Theatre Commands”.
