QUAD & AUKUS Security alliances creating sleepless nights to China
As per the invitation from American President Joe Biden, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a highly level in U.S. to discuss with U.S. President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, many other world leader and global CEOs.
During his visit, Narendra Modi will attend a high level Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) summit. Leaders of the four Quad group members such as U.S., India, Japan and Australia will attend this summit and they will discuss various matters including COVID-19 pandemic, economic crisis and climate change.
They will also chalk out a clear cut joint military strategy to strengthen their military to meet the growing military challenges they have been facing from China in South China Sea as well as in the Indo Pacific region.
Just after Australia rejoined in the Quad group, QUAD group countries leaders such as Indian Primer Minister Narendra Modi, U.S. President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison conducted a virtual meeting on 12th March, 2021.
In this meeting they have decided to co-operate each other to beat the global COVID-19 pandemic, joint partnership on vaccines, and emphasized the need for an “open” and “free” Indo-Pacific region.
Apart from the same, Quad leaders categorically asked China to follow the international rule of law and desist from taking any unilateral show of force in South and East China Sea and Indo Pacific region.
Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinoz Abe was the leader who took the initiative in forming the Quad in 2007 in the intention of “securing the open sea lanes” and “freedom of navigation”. He wanted to preserve peace, stability, and prosperity in the entire region by forming a formidable Quad Group.
Shinoz Abe’s initiative got widespread support from former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former Australian Prime Minister John Howard and the U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney and they have jointly proceeded to form the same.
Ever since Quad group became a reality, Indian Navy and U.S. Navy jointly conducted Malabar Naval Exercise in 1992 in the Indian Ocean.
From 2015 onwards Japanese Navy also started participating in the Malabar Naval Exercise along with Indian Navy and U.S. Navy to enhance their naval war capabilities.
In the beginning the purpose of Quad was to organize summits, exchanges the information and to conduct the joint military drills.
Ever since Chinese regime systematically bolstered their naval presence in South China sea and Indo Pacific region and built many artificial islands illegally in the South China Sea in the intention of dominating in this region, the main purpose of Quad has changed completely and it’s main intention is now to contain the Chinese military aggression in South China Sea and Indo pacific region.
As Australia was reluctant to join in the Quad group, in 2017 former U.S. President Donald Trump has taken vehement efforts in reviving Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD) in an effective manner with the support of former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Donald Trump’s vehement efforts has encouraged Australia to rejoin in the Quad Group. Accordingly in November 2020 Australian Navy also participated in the Malabar exercise in Bay of Bengal.
While Quad is getting stronger than stronger, U.S. President Joe Biden recently forged a military alliance called “AUKUS” consisting of United States, United Kingdom and Australia to contain China’s growing military assertiveness in the world.
AUKUS group of countries are now planning to increase their naval presence in South China Sea and Indo Pacific region. They are now planning to enhance Australia’s naval capabilities by acquiring eight U.S. nuclear-powered submarines.
Quad and Aukus groups are going to be a formidable force to contain the aggressive China in future.
